Ed Hindson, Former President Of Liberty University, Passes Away At Age 75
It is with great sadness that we report the passing of Dr. Ed Hindson, former President of Liberty University in Lynchburg, VA. Dr. Hindson passed away on April 8, 2023 at the age of 75, leaving behind a lasting legacy of leadership and service to the university and community.
Dr. Hindson was born in Lynchburg and graduated from Liberty University in 1973 with a B.A. in Biblical Studies. After serving as a pastor for several years, he returned to Liberty in 1984 as Assistant to the President and eventually became the university’s President in 1991. During his tenure at Liberty, Dr. Hindson was instrumental in the school’s growth and development, increasing enrollment from 8,000 to over 100,000. He also established the Liberty University School of Law and the Liberty University School of Divinity.
In addition to his accomplishments at Liberty, Dr. Hindson was active in the local community, serving on the boards of various local organizations and ministries. He was a passionate advocate for the Lynchburg area and was a driving force behind the development of the area’s economic growth. He was a strong supporter of the arts, education, and veterans’ causes.
Dr. Hindson was a beloved member of the Lynchburg community and will be greatly missed. He leaves behind his wife, three children, and five grandchildren. The family has asked that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Liberty University School of Divinity.

A memorial service for Dr. Hindson will be held Saturday, April 17th at 11:00 a.m. at Liberty University in the Thomas Road Baptist Church. All are welcome to attend and celebrate the life of this great man.
